Garbage disposals have a “reset” button on the bottom of the grinder motor housing. It is easy to inadvertently press this if the space under your sink is as crowded with fish food, plant fertilizer and garbage bags as mine, you might accidentally hit the switch while, say, taking out the trash.

Good to know before you waste an afternoon debugging your garbage disposal.
