so im gonna bail on the iphone when its launched here in the uk.
i dont see the need to spend that much on a handset and i dont really want an 18 month contract, and to be fair im really only into the idea of having an apple compatible pda.
The new sony ericsson P1i looks good and syncs with mac. im liking that!

My daughter bought an iPhone 10 days go - switching from Verizon to AT&T. I was tempted to get one too - that is until the 1.1.1 firmware upgrade. Isn't it enough that I was willing to buy a phone, change carriers, settling for a slower internet and pay the $175 penalty for the privilege of switching!!!
WHY SHOULDN'T I BE ABLE TO ADD WHATEVER APPS I WANT? I want to be able to play games, check flights, check news sites, etc. Imagine if someone told me I could not use 3rd party apps on my Mac laptop or desktop!
My Blackberry 8830 does everything I need and more! (it even PUSHES mail!) Ours is an all Apple family - 6 MACs and 10 iPods. For now, though, we will have only 1 iPhone. No more.
Shame on you Apple.
Shame on you.

Bah comment didn't make it through.

Anyhow, bluesnarfing + iphone shellcode via metasploit are compelling reasons to update for me. It's a high profile target because it's publicly known the volume of people that are refusing to upgrade. In fact one unlocking app mentioned 500,000 downloads. This is a little more compelling than just simple security paranoia from some would-be cookie stealing XSS vulnerability.

Eh, I am a bit ticked my arm toolchain will now collect dust while I wait, but otherwise I don't think I'll miss playing Zork versus exposing my data willingly.

The 1.1.1 update shunts a remote exploit against bluetooth along with 7 gaping holes in Safari and and 2 in Mail. You can bet the security community is focused on the
