Local Highlights
The fava beans at the Crocker Galleria farmers’ market are really nice. As one Yelper puts it, farmers Market Thursdays fucking make my week.
Boulangerie Bay Bread is also there every week, and today — oh boy — today they were selling caneles de bordeaux. Hells yeah. With a half teaspoon of muscato grappa wine jelly, truly it is the prince of pastries. (Got the wine jelly at A.G. Ferrari)
Last Sunday there was a vendor at the Civic Center farmers’ market selling squash blossoms. A total delicacy, these are highly perishable but fortunately it’s pretty easy to eat a whole basketful.
Cafe Tiramisu is one of restaurants with outdoor cafe space on Belden Place, San Francisco’s best (and only?) little alley of al fresco dining. I expected it to suck, given that the name is so tourist trap-like, but the linguini carbonara with summer black truffles was pretty amazing. Eggs + parmeggiano + black pepper + pancetta + truffles == fantastic. Actually, their sauce was so atypically light for carbonari that it was almost a revelation.
