Facebook’s F8
I am here at the F8 event at SF Design Expo Center in San Francisco.
This event feels exactly like a WWDC. I mean, exactly:
- opening music by Daft Punk
- a keynote speech
- a Keynote presentation
- year-over-year highlights
- “shipping today”
Mark Z.’s language and style during his keynote and demos exactly mirrors Steve Jobs’. I feel as though he must’ve watched a couple thousand hours of Stevenotes while practicing — it was eerie. If you’re going to copy someone, copy the best, I suppose, and he did a really good job rolling with the demo glitches.
I should point out that Slide’s Max Levchin spoke during the keynote after the robot from Microsoft and the dude from Amazon about some of things we at Slide are building with Facebook. Stay tuned.
[UPDATE: Some idiot in the row behind me talked just above a whisper through the whole damn speech and no amount of nasty looks would shut the guy up. No one would do that during a Stevenote. Perhaps in a couple of years, when Facebook commands fear, and people have learned to respect Mark’s sandals and North Face jacket, that guy will have an unfortunate accident. You have been warned.]
