Slow-Cooked Hoisin Short Ribs
Made this for Chinese New Year this year; a co-worker asked me for the recipe so I figured I’ll share with the Interweb at large.
- 3lbs short ribs
- 1.5 qts stock (beef, chicken — I used pork)
- 2 tbsp hoisin
- 1 tbsp black bean sauce
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp minced ginger
- 1/4 cup dark soy sauce
- 1 tsp five spice
Add all the above to the pot, make sure you have enough stock to just cover the top of the meat. Braise on low or in a slow cooker for 4-5 hours. Remove the short ribs from the cooking liquid (they should be very tender) and place on a nonstick sheet on a baking pan. Sprinkle brown or turbinado sugar over the short ribs and roast at 375 for about 20-30 minutes or until the sugar has caramelized.
Garnish with sesame seeds and enjoy.
